Using Hands-Free Mode
Hands-Free Mode lets you have a short spoken back-and-forth with ThoughtDump instead of tapping through the app. Here's how it works:
- Open ThoughtDump.
- Choose Hands-Free Mode.
- Allow listening to start; use the on-screen start control if your browser needs an extra tap.
- Allow microphone permission if you're asked. If nothing happens after you allow it, or you don't get asked at all, see Microphone not working on iPhone / Safari.
- Speak normally.
- Pause when you're finished with that thought.
- ThoughtDump processes what you said.
- Text responses appear, with optional spoken replies.
- It starts listening again for your next turn.
- Tap Stop whenever you're done.
Immediate follow-ups work in the same conversation — for example: "Make that 6:30," "Put that under the Impala project," "Actually, that's an idea," or "Cancel that." Before ThoughtDump deletes anything in Hands-Free Mode, it asks you to say a clear confirmation first — it won't remove something just because you mentioned it. Use the spoken-replies toggle when you prefer text. Manual tap-to-record capture is also available with access, microphone/browser support, and connectivity.
Hands-Free Mode listens while ThoughtDump is open and active in your browser. It is not a locked-phone wake-word assistant and does not listen in the background — keep the app in the foreground. Backgrounding and locking behavior varies by browser; do not rely on continued listening.
Turns, stopping, and recovery
Each utterance has a ten-minute limit. Pauses trigger processing. Use visible Stop, or say “stop listening” or “exit hands free.” Completion phrases are interpreted after transcription, not as instant streaming commands. If interrupted, follow the recovery controls and resume when ready.
Recent conversational context is bounded. You can correct wording, change an Item type, move Items between Projects, create or route to a Project, request readback, or clarify ambiguity. Unresolved choices remain saved for review. Destructive commands require confirmation. Hands-Free does not take autonomous actions in external services.
Speech toggles are available in the overlay and Settings, saved per device. Text responses remain visible when spoken replies are off.
